  • Cory Roegner, Nathan Ament, Tom Elder, Cory MacNulty
  • Convener: Cory Roegner, Phone: 801-539-4228, Email: , Title: BLM Recreation Program Lead

  • Nathan Ament's role is to engage communities in education and awareness about dark night skies.
  • Tom Elder is interested in Dark Night Skies and Trails management in the Uintah Basin.
  • Cory Roegner was influenced greatly by the government shutdown and thinks that communication and collaboration with local communities could be much better.

Where to focus?

  • Community-Community, agency-community.
  • Need to improve the communication between parks, astronomy clubs, communities, agencies, chambers of commerce, and individual leaders.
  • Collective input and voluntary initiatives are vital to engaging and involving communities.

Thoughts and Ideas

  • Much of the successes and failures with community involvement are personality driven. There are examples of this we can draw from.
  • There needs to be a way to share information better and more efficiently among communities regarding the Colorado Plateau as a night sky destination. Can we do this by better promoting partnerships among NPCS, BLM, other agencies, and communities?
  • There is county funding for trail access to DINO but the route itself is an issue. There is not a good selection.
  • Events for the 2016 centennial of the NPS could be a great way to engage people and get the word out about night skies and trails.

Next Steps

  • Cory R and Cory M will reach out to everyone after the holidays in order to set up the next meeting.
